Karl is highly regarded for his ability to translate complex ecological issues into clear, practical solutions. His recent work providing expert testimony in Federal Court and the NSW Land and Environment Court highlights the depth of his knowledge across species biology, ecological assessments and environmental legislation. He is known for his unwavering commitment to evidence-based outcomes.

Mick is a highly respected operations leader with more than 10 years’ experience overseeing large-scale vegetation management and field operations across Australia’s energy and infrastructure sectors. As Regional Business Manager, he brings a steady, practical and people-focused approach grounded in strong technical capability and deep operational insight.

He manages some of our largest and most complex contracts, coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and ensuring all works are delivered safely, efficiently and in alignment with regulatory and client expectations. His experience spans fuel-load reduction, fire-break construction, slashing and mowing programs, weed control operations and remote-area workforce leadership.

Mick is a committed safety champion, embedding rigorous WHS processes into daily operations, undertaking detailed risk assessments and fostering a culture where safety is a shared responsibility. Stuart is an experienced aviation operations and wildlife hazard management professional who has progressed through multiple technical and leadership roles since joining Biodiversity Australia in 2019. With a strong foundation in conservation land management and advanced field qualifications, he has built a reputation for delivering safe, effective, and compliant airside operations across both Defence and civil aviation environments.

Stuart’s career spans hands-on wildlife hazard management, aerodrome inspections, NOTAM recommendations, and high-risk wildlife removal, through to his current leadership role overseeing operational delivery for BA Aviation. He combines technical field expertise with strong organisational capability, managing scheduling, budgets, HSE compliance, and senior review of all aviation reporting and data outputs.

Stuart has also played a pivotal role in international Defence aviation operations, leading wildlife hazard management support at RMAF Butterworth in Malaysia across multiple exercises. His work has been formally recognised through commendations from senior Defence personnel, demonstrating his professionalism, leadership, and commitment to aviation safety. About Daniel

Daniel is a Principal Ecologist and the Unit Project Coordinator for Ecology. Daniel has over 15 years’ experience as an ecologist working in the environmental consultancy industry. Daniel has been a member of multi-national consultancy teams for over 10 years working on environmental projects across Australia and the south pacific.

Daniel has been involved in numerous ecological surveys, environmental investigations, assessment and compliance monitoring projects throughout Australia and the South Pacific.

As a senior member of large scale multi-disciplinary projects on Oil and Gas, Land Development, Mining and industrial development projects, Daniel has developed and managed large field teams with high standards of quality, technical, environmental and safety outcomes in challenging environments.

Daniel’s technical experience covers a broad range of disciplines, including ecological assessments, ecology surveys, ecology restoration, environmental field investigations, water quality management, and monitoring and compliance auditing.

Daniel has extensive experience working under numerous Local, State and Federal legislations across Australia.

Additionally Daniel undertakes part time tutoring at the University of the Sunshine Coast in Environmental Statistics and Analysis and Environmental Research and Design and Earth’s Surface Process, Materials and Soils.

Robbie is Biodiversity Australia’s Regional Business Manager for North Queensland, based in Townsville. With a background in Chemical Engineering and more than 15 years’ leadership experience, he brings strong strategic and operational capability across environmental, mining and water treatment sectors. Robbie has led large, geographically dispersed teams and managed complex portfolios across Australia and Papua New Guinea. He is known for driving performance, building strong client relationships and delivering practical solutions that improve safety, efficiency and long-term outcomes.

Alastair is a versatile, people-focused leader with more than ten years of experience across project management, customer service, carpentry and sales. He brings a strong technical foundation in construction processes, contractor coordination and site safety, paired with a proactive, detail-driven approach to every project. Known for his clear communication and practical risk management, Alastair supports teams confidently through complex operational tasks while maintaining a strong focus on WHS standards.

His career spans community services, the construction industry, where he earned his Certificate III in Carpentry and progressed into supervisory roles, local government and customer-facing leadership positions, building an adaptable and collaborative leadership style. Alastair joined Biodiversity Australia in April 2025. Outside of work, he is an avid fisherman and dedicated rugby coach.

About Dominic

Dominic is an Ecologist with a diverse professional background that spans the travel industry, hospitality management and environmental science. He began his journey with Biodiversity Australia as a Fauna Spotter Catcher and vegetation management team member while completing his Environmental Science degree at the University of Queensland. After graduating, he joined the Ecology team full time, specialising in Offset Strategy across Queensland and New South Wales. His experience includes impact assessments, baseline studies, monitoring programs and biodiversity stewardship site assessments.

Since 2024, Dominic has worked in Natural Capital, leading projects focused on establishing Biodiversity Stewardship Agreements and supporting credit brokerage within the NSW market. He is deeply motivated by a desire to strengthen and improve Australia’s natural capital systems, bringing a relentless drive to lift industry standards, increase environmental transparency, and build markets that genuinely benefit biodiversity.

About Adam

Adam May is a proud Wiradjuri man, currently employed as an Ecologist and Botanist with Biodiversity Australia and brings 16 years of knowledge and experience in the ecology industry. Adam’s passionate expertise has developed having undertaken several roles ranging from teaching field botany, practicing horticulture, plant identification with the QLD herbarium and ecological consulting. Adam holds extensive industry qualifications which include Diploma of Horticulture, Bachelor of Science (Ecology), Graduate Diploma in Education and Native Animal Conservation in Training certification. Further to this Adam is recognised as suitably qualified under the Vegetation Structure and Remnant Status VMA 1999, Field identification of the Brigalow Belt 2007 and The Queensland Regional Ecosystem Framework and its Application (2007).  Adam has significant experience undertaking ecological surveys including targeted flora and fauna surveys throughout Southern QLD and Northern NSW.

Adam has developed a broad range of professional skills including conducting ecological surveys, extensive plant identification, plant cultivation, flora and fauna surveys, targeted fauna surveys, natural areas management, data analysis, GIS and compiling ecological assessment reports. Adam’s cultural heritage underpins his passion for the natural world, and he seeks to work in projects and within diverse teams that help to achieve positive real-world outcomes for our clients.

About Cheryl

Dr Cheryl O’Dwyer is a Principal Ecologist with over 30 years’ experience specialising in flora and fauna assessments and species expertise. She has worked across renewables, conservation, government and mining, and managed major infrastructure developments. A former university lecturer and researcher, she is known for translating complex ecological issues into clear, practical solutions. Cheryl brings strong scientific rigour to her work and has published research in peer-reviewed journals. Driven by a genuine care for Country and the natural environment, she is committed to ensuring ecological values are meaningfully considered in environmental decision-making to achieve positive outcomes for biodiversity, landscapes and communities.

Jodi Pilborough is a strategic Tender Coordinator with more than 15 years of experience leading high-value bids across Defence, government, mining, environmental services and tourism. At Biodiversity Australia, she manages over 600 tenders each year, contributing to major long-term contract wins and the company’s continued growth.

Laura is a Conservation Biologist with a Master’s degree in Conservation Biology and a strong background in project management, ecological monitoring and environmental education. Her experience spans freshwater and shellfish monitoring, riparian restoration, ecological team leadership and health and safety coordination. As a Visiting Scholar at Griffith University, Laura led the Gold Coast Newborn Calf Study, contributing important research on humpback whale calving behaviour. She is a marine megafauna specialist, published author and a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Conservation – Oceania.

Since joining Biodiversity Australia in 2025, Laura has supported project coordination, field teams and scientific reporting. She brings a thoughtful, collaborative and research-driven approach to every task, paired with a strong personal commitment to quality in both fieldwork and written outputs. Whether he’s deep in vegetation surveys, or navigating the complexities of large project environments, Harrison is known for his thorough approach, reliability and thoughtful insights.

Her strong performance and natural leadership in the field paved the way for her transition into a full ecological role, where she now contributes to both technical delivery and project coordination.

Jess has worked across diverse ecosystems in Queensland and New South Wales and is skilled in TEC verification, regional ecosystem assessments, BioConditions and BAM. As a certified drone pilot, she also enhances survey efficiency and accuracy through aerial data capture. Alex has eight years of experience across vegetation management, fauna services and ecological fieldwork, supporting major clients such as Hunter Water, Res Group, Vestas, Origin Energy and Shell QGC. Over the past three years, she has worked extensively as an ecologist in the Brigalow Belt, developing strong skills in identifying EVNT fauna habitat, verifying MNES vegetation communities and conducting detailed ecosystem assessments. Alex combines solid field capability with strong GIS and reporting skills, contributing to high-quality ecological deliverables for a range of infrastructure and environmental projects. Her practical experience across multiple BA units gives her a broad understanding of on-ground challenges and client expectations.

About Dusty

Dr Dusty McLean is an Ecologist and Scientist with strong experience in ecological research, survey design and field implementation. He has worked extensively across northeast NSW and southeast Queensland, with particular focus on bird and mammal ecology in a range of ecosystems. Dusty’s research has examined the impacts of fire and predation on wildlife populations and has informed conservation management plans for species such as the long-nosed potoroo, red-legged pademelon and dingo. He has published research in international academic journals and has experience working collaboratively with universities, government agencies and First Nations communities. Dusty brings strong analytical capability, technical rigour and a collaborative mindset to projects focused on meaningful conservation outcomes.

She brings hands-on experience across a range of flora and fauna survey techniques, including pitfall trapping, bird surveys and microbat trapping, and has a solid understanding of ecological field methods and best practice assessment standards. Shirley is highly skilled in native and invasive flora and fauna identification, with particular expertise across Central West NSW. She combines strong field capability with attention to detail in data analysis and environmental impact assessment, supporting high-quality, defensible ecological outcomes. Shirley is motivated by continuous learning and is passionate about developing her skills across different landscapes and project types, contributing to meaningful environmental outcomes for clients and communities.

Randall is a seasoned fleet professional whose career grew naturally from his early days as a mechanic into long-standing leadership roles in service and fleet management. With nearly two decades in the sector, he’s passionate about innovation and finding smarter, safer ways to keep our fleet running reliably. Randall has a strong focus on system improvements that make day-to-day operations smoother for everyone. Outside of work, he loves being outdoors, tinkering with anything fast, and spending sunny days in the garden.

About Bronte

Bronte is a competent and qualified Ecologist with skills including client relations, team leading, fauna and flora surveys, Data management and report writing with the majority of field work taking place in Southeast Queensland, Toowoomba Region, Surat Basin and Brigalow Belt. Bronte has completed several formal qualifications including a Bachelor of Environmental Science, Diploma in Science and certificates in animal behaviour.  Bronte has several years of experience working with animals and their varying habitats and undertaking targeted flora and fauna surveys. Bronte has expertise with handling and surveying for a variety of animals including Koalas. Bronte’s most recent work is conducting targeted flora and fauna surveys on multiple ongoing seismic gas projects for major clients. Field tasks include ecological field surveys identifying regional ecosystems, identifying species present through ecological assessments, and identifying EVNT habitat. Liaising with the client to write and produce timely reports on the field data and GIS analysis to suit client requirements. Bronte has worked on several projects in her time at Biodiversity Australia in identifying a range of species across different environments. Experience includes Regional Ecosystems (RE) knowledge, targeted flora and fauna surveys, camera trapping, assessment and mapping, habitat assessments (aquatic and terrestrial), wildlife catching and handling (aquatic and terrestrial); cultural heritage surveys, report writing, development of HRSMPs, SMPs and proposals, research, data collection, GIS analysis and mapping.

Samir Khader is an Ecologist with a diverse background spanning marine science, environmental regulation and applied ecological consulting. He has delivered biodiversity assessments, impact assessments and management plans across a range of sectors, including infrastructure, renewable energy, biodiversity offsets and marine environments throughout Queensland and New South Wales. Samir’s experience across research, government and consulting roles has shaped a practical, data-driven approach, ensuring assessments are robust, defensible and aligned with regulatory requirements. He is highly regarded for his attention to detail, collaborative working style and ability to translate complex ecological data into clear, actionable outcomes for clients and regulators. About Lucas

Lucas joined Biodiversity Australia a Graduate Ecologist in 2025. He brings over a decades’ worth of experience in the ecological restoration sector. During this time Lucas developed as a skilled field worker and a keen botanist. He later progressed into team leader, trainee supervisor and project management roles where he led community restoration Grant projects and managed a commercial restoration work portfolio.

His passion remains in native threatened flora identification and conservation with expertise in rainforest communities of southeastern Australia.

During his time at Biodiversity Australia, Lucas has gained professional skills and experience as an ecologist conducting flora and fauna surveys, targeted threatened species surveys, field data collection and analysis, Geographic Information Systems and producing concise, professionally presented reports using a variety of formats. He has gained valuable exposure to the NSW Biodiversity Offsets Scheme and associated Biodiversity Assessment Method both in the field and office and is working towards the goal of becoming a BAM Accredited Assessor.

Why is working in environmental services important to you?

Working in the field gives me the opportunity to visit some beautiful locations while applying my knowledge and experience to contribute to robust ecological surveys and meaningful data collection. Jamie is a Senior Aviation Reporting Officer based at Miles Airport, bringing more than 15 years of experience across aviation operations and airport environments. His role spans client liaison, airside and landside maintenance coordination, air traffic management, and strict adherence to safety and compliance requirements. Jamie has built a highly rewarding career in aviation and values the unique opportunities the industry has afforded him, many of which he recognises are experiences few people get to have. His practical knowledge and calm, solutions-focused approach are integral to safe and efficient airport operations.

About Sarah

Sarah is Marketing Manager at Biodiversity Australia, with a background spanning brand strategy, communications, content and stakeholder engagement. She brings broad experience across B2B marketing, public relations and digital campaigns, shaped by more than eight years living and working in London in senior marketing roles. Now back in Australia, Sarah combines strategic thinking with a practical, hands-on approach. She is passionate about telling meaningful stories that connect people, purpose and impact, and about building strong relationships across diverse teams.

About Joshua

Joshua Lyon is a member of the Biodiversity Australia Biosecurity and Wildlife team, bringing over 10 years of experience in wildlife management, farming, and sustainable land management. With a deep passion for the environment and conservation, Joshua has honed his skills in vertebrate pest management, including animal tracking, hunting, trapping, and wildlife dispersal, as well as operating specialist equipment for these tasks. He has worked across various locations and gained extensive practical experience in the agricultural and wildlife sectors.

Joshua holds several relevant certifications, including a current Queensland firearms license, a construction industry white card, and chainsaw competency. In addition to his technical skills, Joshua is currently being mentored by Managing Director Steve Noy, further enhancing his expertise in the field. His well-rounded knowledge and commitment to the environment make him an essential part of the Biodiversity Australia team.

About Talia

Talia is HSEQ Manager at Biodiversity Australia, leading health, safety, environment and quality systems across diverse environmental and land management operations. She brings strong experience in safety systems, compliance, governance and continuous improvement, working closely with teams to translate complex requirements into practical, field-ready processes. Known for her collaborative and pragmatic approach, Talia is passionate about building strong safety culture and enabling teams to do their work safely, confidently and to a high standard.

Deidre leads Biodiversity Australia’s North Queensland operations, bringing over a decade of experience in land management, vegetation maintenance and operational leadership. With a practical, hands-on background, she is known for her strong focus on safety, service delivery and team coordination. Deidre has led large-scale Defence and regional contracts and brings excellent client liaison and operational systems experience. A values-driven leader, she is passionate about mentoring staff, driving continuous improvement and delivering reliable outcomes across remote and regional locations.

About Kris

Kris Mullington is a Vegetation Field Team Leader for Biodiversity Australia. Kris is a competent Team Lead with a diverse range of knowledge and experience and with high enthusiasm and passion for Integrated Weed Management, Flora and Fauna Surveys and native and feral animal species. Throughout the years Kris has been in the Vegetation team, he has proven competency to successfully manage the daily requirements of the field team. Kris has completed work on many valuable projects, including as the Field Team Leader on the current QGC/Shell vegetation management contract in the Western Downs region. Kris has proven his ability to undertake works within a high-risk environment and adhere to the standards required to operate safety and efficiently.

About Jess

Jessica Gosper is an experienced administration professional who plays a key role in supporting Biodiversity Australia’s Western Downs operations, drawing on a strong background in the gas sector. She spent the majority of her career supporting major operations, including working with Origin Energy across various sites, before returning to the workforce in part-time contractor support roles. Since joining Biodiversity Australia in April 2023, Jess has been a highly organised and obliging team member who enjoys supporting the field teams and making a positive difference on the ground.
