Biodiversity Australia was approached by Brisbane City Council (BCC) and engaged to undertake a joint project with BCC and the Wirrinyah Group. The Wirrinyah Group is an Indigenous group undertaking their Certificate 3 Indigenous Conservation Land Management Training. This training was provided by BCC. The training was split into 2 parts – the theory component was delivered by Tallebudgera Outdoor and Environmental Centre and the practicable aspect was delivered by Biodiversity Australia.

The entire project was at the Karawatha Forest and consisted of all aspects of land management conservation including a planting aspect where the trainees undertook a tree planting of 275 new trees, which included planting and aftercare.

Key deliverables including any reporting requirements:

  • Provide onsite training to trainees
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders
  • Provide uniform and PPE to Wirrinyah Group
  • Stakeholders included; Brisbane City Council, Wirrinyah Group, Tallebudgera Outdoor and Environmental Centre and Karawatha Forest for the use of facilities.
